Disaster Strikes!

Disaster! December 07 2009! The day that Jessica broke her wrist.

First day of snowboarding, not even that great a day to snowboard, what did I do. I broke my wrist on our first run down. I was not even going that fast and yes, I do know how to snowboard. I swear!

The doctor let me choose my cast color. Purple is the color of Gods (right Bernie!)! So therefore this proves that I must be a god? But gods do not break bones! Also I am a mere human. Now a broken human that can not decorate cakes very well.

Snowboarding is dangerous kids! But not dangerous enough to stop me even though the doctor advised otherwise!

Caitlin's Birthday

Birthday number 20. One more year and I will be able to legally drink with my sister. I know the perfect gift too but if she sees this that will ruin the surprise.

So after a few weeks in our course I have mastered (or tell myself I have) the rose! I make mine a bit different than the Wilton version because my fingers do not like to twist the right way, or sorry, the Wilton way.

My grandparents were over for her birthday so they all go to enjoy this cake. I want to find a better decorating frosting than Buttercream because no one here really likes it. I have flavored it differently but it still is too sweet. Next time I will try French Buttercream.

Oh the goodness of cake.

Christmas Cake

I have been taking a cake decorating class for a week or so now. This is class number 1. This is my final cake for that class.

Now I have to express my opinion and say that I do not think that a Wilton class is necessary to create beautifully decorated cakes. It did help me in understanding the basics of the rose and other such things but most of my cakes were created without the help of the teacher. I like to go ahead in class anyways because I am impatient and do not like lagging behind other people.

So this cake was created and almost sent me into overtime in the class to finish. It is too bad that this is Christmas-y when in fact it is near Thanksgiving not Christmas. Oh well, people will enjoy it the same I hope.

Class Number 1

It has begun. My relentless journey to find yet another hobby that I enjoy only to quit in the end. Let us see how far this takes me.

This is Cake Number 1 from Wilton Cake Decorating Class Number 1.

I like the fact that our teacher did not make us do the rainbow cake or one of the outlines in the book. I wanted to make this cake my own. I did not have enough time to finish the bottom border but we were not really suppose to do that much anyways.

Can you guess what is inside?

Ah to go along with my grape outer theme I have put on a grape inner theme! It is a chocolate cake with a peanut butter and jelly filling.

Let us see what next week brings!

French Vanilla Cappuccino Cupcakes

My first ever creation! With a strawberry chocolate Ganache frosting. Oh yeah. Try out this recipe see if you like it.

Cupcake Recipe
2 eggs
1 ¼ cups sugar
Salt
1 Tablespoon baking powder
1 1/2 cups flour
1 Cappuccino mix
½ cup butter
1 tablespoon Vanilla extract
½ cup buttermilk

Mix flour, baking powder, salt and cappuccino mix together in a separate bowl. Set aside.

Whisk together eggs, buttermilk, and Sugar. Then add vanilla extract and butter. After that is all mixed slowly add the flour mixture to the liquid mixture. Fold in gradually until everything is mixed. Try not to overmix.

Oven temp 350 degrees (make sure you have an oven thermometer, my oven is off by 50 and it makes a difference really.)
Time- I usually check them at 10 minutes. If they need longer check every 2 minutes after that.

Frosting -

Blend together 4-5 strawberries.
Mix 1/2 cup heavy cream with the strawberries on the stove top.
When they reach boiling point pour the strawberry/heavy cream mix over chocolate chips/baking chocolate and mix together in a separate bowl.

Sorry this is my first ever recipe so its not well written : )
